#1: Meeting with On train

written by
Clara Cros

For our first meeting within the framework of the NoCode Series, we went to the premises of On train.

What is On Train?

It is a Learning Company - an education group - that reinvents professional training by offering unique trainings to make companies independent and efficient in the face of new digital and tech professions.

Among the courses offered:

  • Product management & UX/UI
  • Online marketing & acquisition
  • Ecommerce & direct to consumer sales
  • Data & analytics
  • B2B sales & growth strategy
  • Tech & web development
  • Business & digital operations
  • Modern soft skills

The company, which was founded in 2018, now has 20 employees and has raised €1 million in funding.

We use a suite of tools NoCode including Bubble, Zapier and Airtable. The fast learning curve of these tools is one of the main reasons why the team decided to adopt them.

Today, On train counts 750 trainers on the platform who support more than 400 companies in their digital transformation.

💡 Via SEA, We notice that trainings searches NoCode are currently more and more sought after!

Who works with these tools NoCode ?

Ontrain is a company with a strong internal culture NoCode . All employees work daily with tools NoCode:

  • 3 partners
  • 4 people in the Product team
  • 5 people in the Sales team
  • 2 people in the Marketing team
  • 4 people in the Ops team

The Product team is not the only one to use the NoCode tools to help them in their various missions: the Sales, Ops and Marketing teams also use them. Tools such as Zapier and Airtable have made it possible to streamline their processes and further automate their relationships.

And as you can see, there is no design team at On train. The whole platform was thought and designed from scratch by the Product and Ops teams!

Which tool for which need?

To enable them to develop and modify the On Train platform as quickly and easily as possible, the product team chose to use Bubble from scratch.

Victor Detraz, developer NoCode at On train, told us he never felt frustrated or encountered any structural limitations. Their short term goal is to move the entire platform to Bubble's new responsive engine.

As far as the management and centralization of all the information related to the many people registered on the platform (trainers and participants) is concerned, they chose to use Airtable - a very visual and intuitive tool for the whole team.

Finally, Zapier is the tool that allows them to automate tasks and connect all the data on Airtable to the platform.

Here's a look at the result:

The product team closely follows the progress of the NoCode ecosystem and the tech world in general to challenge, if necessary, their choice to have bet very early on this stack tools NoCode.

So far, this choice has paid off and the progress made by the ecosystem over the last two years has confirmed it. The rare technical limitations encountered on Bubble could easily be circumvented with custom code snippets, which Bubble or Airtable natively allow to set up. In this sense, On train claims their stack tools as a stack LowCode , rather than NoCode.

To focus on Bubble, in addition to the constant improvements of the tool, headlined by the new responsive editor, the growing number of videos, templates, plug-ins and tools from the user community have pushed what is possible with Bubble.

All the lights seem to be green for On train to continue its evolution with their current tools NoCode .

Training at On train?

Within the product team, newcomers are quickly introduced to their entire stack tool set. Training is ongoing with one-on-one support and a pre-established roadmap to allow them to gradually build their skills, ensuring that best practices are adopted along the way.

A list of the best resources (articles, videos, docs, books) about their tools is continuously updated, thanks to a weekly monitoring work, and is shared within the team so that everyone can quickly become an expert.

For the other teams (Sales, Marketing, Operations) who are also increasingly using the tools NoCode - such as Zapier, a particularly intuitive tool - the product team is responsible for training them so that they become autonomous on these tools.

As a training group, they thought long and hard about how best to train their talent internally. For several months, peer-to-peer learning sessions have been set up so that each On train employee can learn from the others. Training in the NoCode tools is part of this process, via these peer-to-peer mentoring sessions.

💡 Victor, developer No-Code at On train, has a background in applied foreign languages. Just goes to show that all types of profiles can become Bubble experts! According to him, it all starts with a bit of curiosity and a great motivation to do what we are passionate about.

A big THANK YOU to the whole team for having received us in its premises and for having opened the ball of the meetings NoCode Series. It is thanks to companies like this one that the revolution and the democratization of NoCode will have more and more impact.
